Nancy R. Walters, SCMD, Very
Special Events President, an expert on the shopping
center and retail industry, is available for presentations.
Ms. Walters offers insight from her career as an award
winning journalist, department store executive, mall/corporate
marketing director, and as founder of one of the industry's
most respected national marketing companies. Her work
with developers, all types and sizes of retail properties,
and an impressive list of clients, including Fortune
500 companies, add to her unique ability to offer timely
presentations.
The Philadelphia native was raised in St. Petersburg, Florida
and attended Florida State University on a full Poynter Fund
Journalism Scholarship. Her award winning journalism career
included the Miami Herald, St. Petersburg Times, Tampa Tribune
and United Press International. Ms. Walters gained retail
experience as Fashion Activities Director for the Sears Southern
Territory. As Marketing Director of Clearwater Mall in Florida,
she won MAXI awards from the International Council of Shopping
Centers (ICSC) and was named Outstanding Young Woman of Clearwater.
She was promoted to Corporate Special Events Director of TrizecHahn
in San Diego, California where her department was one of the
first in the industry to create sponsorship programs. While
at TrizecHahn she directed the grand openings of malls throughout
the U.S. She founded Very Special Events in 1986.
Ms. Walters teaches Public Relations for the International
Council of Shopping Center’s (ICSC) School for Professional
Development and Retail Marketing for ICSC’s international
programs. She has conducted extended classes for ICSC in many
countries such as China, Thailand, Turkey and Venezuela. She
is a member of the ICSC Public Relations Task Force and serves
as PR Western Divisional Chairman. She is a former MAXI Chairman
and serves on the MAXI Judging Committee. She is a frequent
speaker at marketing conventions and corporate meetings and
writes for trade publications and national media. She has
been interviewed for articles in publications including USA
Today and she serves on the marketing editorial board of Shopping
Center Business magazine.
